Recently, I applied for two management jobs in our local area, that I was more than qualified for and willing to work, and didn't even as much as get a phone call from! I applied SIX times for the same positions over a space of two months. I finally wrote a letter to the president of the company and told him I felt it was due to my age, and if I could prove it, I would sue them for discrimation. But we all know that is terribly difficult to prove. I recently saw on the news about a group up in the New England states around my age that recently succumbed to the fatally of losing their jobs as well. Like me, they could not find work either. So they started up their own little group and are helping each other search for jobs in their local areas! That is what I call true team work! Congrats, people! Keep up the great work!
Until the economy went south in a hand basket, my wife and I were doing pretty well with a business I started up, cleaning carpets and upholstery. Prior to that, I was a long distance truck driver, gone from home two to three weeks at a time. Due to my wife's medical problems, I had to come off the road to care for her. Then like a lot of other high paying executives found themselves, we likewise woke up one morning late last September to discover they found someone else that could clean their carpets for a whole lot cheaper. We were instantly without a job and can not collect unemployment since we owned our own company.
For years, I have tried to make money on line, but have been victim of so many scams to the tune of about twenty thousand dollars over a ten year period. My wife believes the only ones that make money on line are the ones that scam other people... Who knows, maybe she is right, huh? I haven't made a single penny yet!!! So if anybody out there knows of a legit business with little or no start up fees, PLEASE let me know, huh? Thanks! I really need a home job so that I can take care of my wife and our grandson. I too am having up coming surgery that will keep me off my feet for two months.
These days and times are truly trying on us all. I don't mean to sound negative, as I realize that there are many out there that are in a whole lot worse shape than we are. I have been truly blessed over my lifetime. Except for the minor aches and pains that come with getting older, and a few surgery's in my life, I am in great health. My wife and I have five beautiful children and soon to have our twelfth grand baby! But when you are use to working all your life, from ten years old, it is terribly hard NOT to be doing something. God made man the head of the household for a reason, and presently, I feel I am letting my family down, through no fault of my own. I am curiously intrigued why the work force looks at senior citizens like cows to be put out to pasture. When we have SO much to contribute to today's world. Are they telling us that we can't cut the mustard any longer? I'd like to see today's youth put up with a tenth of what we had to live through while we were growing up! But that is a subject I'll save for another blog, at another time!
I mentioned earlier how blessed I am, and I truly am. However, I must admit, it is awfully hard to look into my wife's face ninety percent of the time and see the pain that riddles that beautiful face of hers! This woman is truly an angel sent by God. How ANY woman could go through seven major surgery's in less than a year, and suffer constantly from fibromyalgia.......... I'd given up long ago, but she continues to think more of everybody else's problems and pain, than her own! She is truly my hero! I thank God for her many times a day!
Thanks for letting me vent, people, and may the Good Lord take a liking to you and shine His face upon you! May He bless you and keep you and yours safe in His tender loving care!
Until next time........................
Bill
